What are the Different Types of Cotton?

Although we love to call a fabric as just ‘Cotton’, there are many different types of cotton yarns. The following are the cotton yarns that are most commonly found in T Shirts

Combed Cotton Yarn

Combed cotton is one of the best cotton material for T Shirts. Naturally, its very popular. Combed cotton yarn is the process of refining the cotton yarn by straitening the cotton fibers, and getting rid of short strands. Thus, Combed cotton yarn ends up being softer, smoother and stronger (increasing durability). Combed Cotton Yarn costs more than other cotton yarns.

Ring-spun Cotton Yarn

Ring-spun cotton is produced by continuously spinning, lengthening and thinning the cotton fiber. The spinning makes the short hairs of the cotton stand out, resulting in a stronger yarn that is significantly softer. The number of times the cotton yarn has been spun, the softer it is.

Carded Cotton Yarn

Carded Cotton Yarn is produced by using two machine (or hand) cards. This carding process is the spinning of the cotton fibers. The cotton fibers are lengthened, separated, cleaned and assembled into a large rope of fibers. The fibers are then lined up to be spun into a yarn.
